Karen Hagberg, Ph.D.

Biography

Karen Hagberg holds a Ph.D. from the Eastman School of Music and is one of only twelve Americans to have graduated from the Piano Department of the Talent Education Institute in Japan, where she studied for four years with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki and Dr. Haruko Kataoka, the founder of Suzuki Piano Basics.

Dr. Hagberg travels frequently to conduct workshops for teachers and students. She has taught in Singapore, Australia, England, Canada and throughout the United States. Her students have performed in Japan and Belgium as well as in Sacramento, Dallas, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Louisville, and have been the recipients of numerous prizes.

Dr. Hagberg is the author of many articles on piano pedagogy, and a contributor to the latest edition of Grove's Dictionary of Opera and Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians. Her book, Stage Presence from Head to Toe: a Manual for Musicians was published in 2003 by Scarecrow Press.
