BENEFITS OF ENROLLING IN THE HAGBERG SUZUKI PIANO PROGRAM

  1. A non-competitive learning environment geared to the needs and abilities of each individual student.
  2. Frequent performances on high-quality grand pianos in professional venues.
  3. Participation in annual auditions sponsored by the New York State Music Teachers Association (required after Level 1).
  4. Ongoing association with supportive community of families whose children are studying piano.
  5. Opportunities for lessons with visiting Suzuki Piano Basics master teachers.
  6. Opportunities to participate in student exchange programs nationally and internationally.
  7. Solid preparation for those who wish to continue to study music at the collegiate level (several graduates have earned music degrees and pursued careers in music).

BEGINNERS CLASSES
For children from ages 2½

These classes constitute a gradual introduction to individual piano study and provide supplementary education for private students in Level I of the Suzuki Piano Method. The class meets from 4:00 - 4:45 p.m. on Saturdays and is included with individual lesson tuition for Book 1 students.

For those not yet enrolled in private lessons, this class affords the opportunity for both teacher and parents to observe readiness as it develops naturally in a group setting while children learn the basic skills of concentration, posture, balance, and stage presence. Reading music and ear training are taught to both parent and student by singing the pieces that the child will eventually play on the piano using solfège (the classically European way of music education).

UPPER LEVEL CLASSES

Students studying repertoire beyond Level I may enroll in the Book 2-3 Class (Classes A1 and A2), or or the Book 4+ Class (Class B).  These classes meet three times per term.

Classes A1 and B meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:45 - 8:00 p.m. Class A2 meets on Saturdays from 10:45 a.m. - Noon. See Studio Calendar for meeting dates.

Tuition for Upper Level Classes is $49 per term.

TUITION & SCHEDULE POLICY (effective October 1, 2010)

This is a year-round program of three 4-month terms: October-January, February-May, and June-September during each of which there are eleven weeks of instruction, a total of 33 weeks annually.

Cancellations/Re-Schedules
Lessons cancelled by the student less than 24 hours ahead may not be re-scheduled. Re-scheduling lessons may be done when time permits if conflicts are anticipated more than 24 hours in advance. (Please be advised that re-scheduling lessons missed the week before or the week after major holidays is not usually possible.) Lessons cancelled because of weather-related conditions cannot be re-scheduled.

Payments
A registration fee of $60 per family is due when the first child enrolls in classes or lessons, and covers the cost of the score and CD for Suzuki Piano Method Volume 1, Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s book Nurtured by Love, and Dr. Haruko Kataoka’s two books Sensibility and Education and How to Teach Beginners.

Tuition is due on October 5, February 5 and June 5. Payments received after the 10th of the month when due will incur a $15 late fee. Please note that tuition is payable on the due date regardless of lesson schedules. All tuition payments are non-refundable. Tuition must be paid continuously for the student’s place in the studio schedule to be maintained. Re-enrollment is required (payment of $60 re-registration fee and re-scheduling) after any period of non-enrollment.
